Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program
The YES Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, offers high school students from countries with significant Muslim populations the chance to live and study in the United States for an academic year. Since its inception in 2003, this program has served as a bridge between cultures, enabling participants to become "youth ambassadors" of their home countries, fostering mutual understanding between the U.S. and their native communities.
Through the YES Program, students live with American host families, attend high school, acquire leadership skills, and participate in community activities. In return, they share their culture, traditions, and experiences with their host families and peers, building lasting relationships and promoting international understanding.
Costs Covered by the YES Scholarship
The YES scholarship covers:
- Round-trip airfare to the U.S.
- Pre-Departure Orientation
- Host family placement for 10-11 months
- Monthly stipend
- Health insurance
- Program activities and materials
However, costs related to passports, medical exams, and extra pocket money are the responsibility of the family.
