Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Erasmus Mundus COASTHazar Programme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A BSc degree or equivalent in oceanography, meteorology, climate sciences, civil, coastal or environmental engineering, or related fields with a minimum GPA of B/B+ (US System) or 2nd upper (UK System).
  • Proficiency in mathematics and physics demonstrated through coursework in relevant subjects.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.), unless you are from an exempt country (check IHE Delft guidelines).
  • If you haven’t completed your bachelor’s degree at the time of application, you must have at least 120 ECTS credits and complete your degree before August 15, 2025.

How to Apply?

To apply for the COASTHazar Erasmus Mundus joint master’s programme, follow these steps:

Programme Overview: Coastal Hazards, Risks, Climate Change Impacts, and Adaptation (COASTHazar)

The COASTHazar programme is a two-year Erasmus Mundus joint master’s degree, designed to train experts in managing coastal hazards and the impacts of climate change. The programme spans 120 ECTS credits and is conducted across three European universities:

  1. First semester: University of Cantabria (UC) in Santander, Spain.
  2. Second semester: IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in Delft, Netherlands.
  3. Third semester: University of Algarve (UAlg) in Faro, Portugal.
  4. Fourth semester: A choice of one of the three universities for thesis research.

Full Scholarships & Reduced Tuition Available The full programme costs €3,600, but eligible students can apply for full Erasmus Mundus scholarships, which cover tuition, travel, and living expenses.

Admission Requirements

  • A B.Sc. degree in oceanography, engineering, climate sciences, or a related field with strong academic standing.
  • Evidence of mathematics and physics proficiency, supported by coursework.
  • Proof of English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.), unless exempt.
  • Applications from candidates with relevant work experience or an MSc in a related field will be given additional consideration.

Selection Procedure

Applications are evaluated based on:

  • Previous academic performance (up to 30 points).
  • Relevance of your degree and work experience (up to 50 points).
  • Letter of motivation (up to 10 points).
  • Letters of recommendation (up to 10 points).
